It is notable for being a rare example of a color film noir, utilizing vibrant Technicolor cinematography by John Alton to create its mood. The plot is based on the novel Love's Lovely Counterfeit by James M. Cain, who also wrote Double Indemnity and The Postman Always Rings Twice. The story involves: A Political Plot Mob underling Ben Grace (John Payne) is ordered to find dirt on a reform mayoral candidate, Frank Jansen. Two Sisters Ben's plan involves exploiting the candidate's secretary, June (Rhonda Fleming), through her kleptomaniac sister Dorothy (Arlene Dahl). The title is a pun on June's "pure heart" compared to her "sick" sister. A Dangerous Triangle Ben falls for June while also being seduced by the "man-hungry" Dorothy, all while dealing with a demanding crime boss, Sol Caspar.
